If you were asked, “What do you believe is the greatest event in the history of the world?” some of you might say the invention of the printing press, or the Wright brothers first flight, or the landing of man on the moon, or the development of the personal computer, or the signing of the Declaration of Independence… or maybe even the Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series. All of those are certainly milestone events in the history of the world, as we know it.
But our team at Athletes in Action believes that the greatest event in the history of the world is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the first Easter Sunday morning. His empty tomb – following His crucifixion on Good Friday – and His post – resurrection appearances to his disciples and multitudes of friends and foes alike – proved that Jesus was and is God. And it proved that Jesus’ death on the cross was sufficient for paying the penalty of sin (2 Corinthians 5:15), and providing us the means by which we can have peace with God (Romans 5:1), come in to relationship with God (John 1:12), and have eternal life (John 3:16).
Do you recognize that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in the history of the world? And more importantly, have you put your faith and trust in Him as your Savior and Lord? If you are not sure that you have, or if you know you haven’t, why won’t you this Easter week? The Bible says,“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
